Ready for Launch

Well, it's been nearly a week since I started heavy work on the site and it's finally ready for launch. Everything seems to be working which is the main concern. I've learned over the past semester that I'm a very abstract programmer. All my code works, but I usually end up implementing it in just about the most difficult way possible. As I worked through things I would find better ways to do some of it. I would go back and change some of the older stuff, but since it works and I'm running out of time before I leave, I probably won't. That was the main idea behind this site anyway. I needed something that would look good and be easy to update without having to add a bunch of web pages and update a lot of links. I think it does that well. I know that working on a website is about the last thing I'll want to be doing this summer, so it was important to make it easy to update.

Anyway, enough talk about the technical stuff behind the site. It's working now and that's the important thing. The photo page currently has pictures from my training trek last summer. Those will probably stay until I actually get some pictures from this summer. Then those will be replaced with the newer pictures. The panoramas I have right now are all from my 2004 trek. I have a few others, but creating a good panorama is difficult, and usually requires a lot of human interaction. There just aren't very many good automatic panorama makers out there. At least not free ones. I'm also going to work on getting the panorama viewer to work on panoramas that are not 360 degrees. Right now those are the only kind it can handle. We'll see if I have time.

There I go talking about the site again. Pretty soon I'll be off for Philmont and will have all this computer stuff out of my mind. I finally found out that I'll be leaving bright and early on Monday morning. David is already out there and has a tent reserved for us. For those who don't know, David was my tent mate from last year, my Ranger in 2004 and was in our crew long before I was. I can't wait to get out there. Well that's all for now. Expect to see some new stuff soon.
